Highlanders will get a chance to test their pedigree when they take on quality South African opposition in the form of Bloemfontein Celtic at Ellis Park Stadium on Saturday July 9 at 3 pm.
Arguably the most passionately supported teams in Southern Africa these two giants should show case some good football on the pitch and their fans must also showcase what they are made of on the grand stands.
Bloemfontein Celtic is a South African football club based in Bloemfontein, founded in 1969 as Mangaung United, and renamed in 1984 to its current name. The club currently competes in South African Premier Soccer League, and selected Seisa Ramabodu Stadium as their home venue.
Bloemfontein Celtic has a large fan base in the Free State. Siwelele, as Celtic's supporters are known, are arguably the most passionate in South Africa.
On the other hand Highlanders finished third in the previous Zimbabwe league season and are currently doing well under the leadership of Mkhuphali Masuku which will prove a decent opposition for a Celtic team making their first friendly appearance of the new season.
Celtic are fresh off their best ever finish in the Premier Soccer League, where they ended fifth and head coach Clinton Larsen will look to this match as an early season test for his charges. Siwelele says this will be an ideal time for Larsen to blood new signing, young centre-back Limbikani Mzava as well as gauge the fitness and form of all the returning players.
This Challenge Cup match against Celtic should be the ideal event for Bosso to prove that they have what it takes compete internationally.
