BOTSWANA police have arrested a Zimbabwean man accused of 27 counts of housebreaking and theft of property worth P85 000.

The accused, Leonard Ndebele (36), was arrested in the Kazungula area, but his 13 accomplices are still on the run and are believed to have fled back to Zimbabwe.

Police in Botswana have since engaged Kazungula area, in Harare to assist in the recovery of the stolen items and arrest of 13 suspects.

Kazungula Police Station commander Phetogo Phillimon confirmed the arrest yesterday, adding that Ndebele also stole other goods worth P6 850, which were recovered following his arrest.

Ndebele was caught red-handed trying to break into a house in Newstance ward.

"The Zimbabwean man is linked to 27 other house break-ins in which electronic goods worth P85 000 were stolen. The suspect worked with 13 accomplices who are still at large and are believed to be in Zimbabwe. These men allegedly steal the goods and sell them to a certain man in Harare who then resells them," Phillimon said.

Botswana police said most of the items were stolen at night while the owners were fast asleep.
