LEGENDARY Zimbabwe footballer Peter Ndlovu, who lost cash and passports for his family in Bulawayo on December 31 last year, is now in South Africa.
A close family friend Welcome Mabuza confirmed that the former Warriors captain was already in South Africa.
"What I know is that Peter left for South Africa this morning. His wife and children stayed behind," said Mabuza.
Ndlovu left yesterday morning to start work at his South African Premiership side Mamelodi Sundowns.
The South African league champions are set to play in a four-team tournament involving TP Mazembe and Zambian champions Zesco.
It is said Ndlovu left his wife Pinky and children in Bulawayo so that they could secure new travel documents.
However, last night, police in Bulawayo had picked up some passports with a similar surname to those of the great footballer. They were yet to reach out to Ndlovu's family to get clarification.
"We want to speak to the family and establish if the passports in our custody belong to his family," said a police officer who declined to be identified.
A thief broke into Ndlovu's car in the Bulawayo central business district stealing cash and valuables. The thief is alleged to have walked away with an undisclosed amount of money and the Mamelodi Sundowns manager's family passports.
Ndlovu bemoaned the incident in a Facebook post this week.
The former Highlanders and Coventry tearaway striker said the thief was someone known to him who stays in Entumbane suburb but practices vice from a leading supermarket on the central business district's periphery.
In the post, Ndlovu alleges the suspect came to him and asked for a Christmas present, little did the former Warriors skipper realise that the man had evil intentions.
"Am pleading with you baba who robbed our car at TM Hyper on December 31 to please return or surrender the passports at a nearest police station so that we can travel with my family please. Even if you surrender them by Entumbane lapho ohlala khona kushapu (where you stay, it's okay) Bro," wrote Ndlovu on his Facebook wall.
"You know ukuthi siyazana (that we know each other) but I don't have to fight you over three year kids' passports. What would you do with kids' passports? Money you took and it's fine. Little did I know when you greeted me and asked for a Christmas box, you had those intentions. However, I understand your situation. As long as I don't get my kids' passports my friend I will put a reward for anyone who calls police for you. I will also submit to the police a blown up picture of you Entumbane lako Hyper lapho otshontsha khona.Thank you people and am sorry I just need your help".
