The MDC-T faction led by Advocate Nelson Chamisa finally held its primary elections for Mpopoma-Pelandaba constituency in Bulawayo, a week after the initial intended date following shambolic preparations for the polls.

The elections which were supposed to have been held on Saturday the 19th of this month were only held today as the party had to put its house in order.

Some people who spoke to the media on condition of anonymity claimed that the elections were heavily rigged with people who are not party members and some members from outside the constituency said to have been bused in to vote in the polls.

MDC-T national chairman for elections directorate Mr Murisi Zwizwai however said the primary elections for his formation have been progressing smoothly with the exercise expected to be concluded this Sunday (tomorrow).

"As you can see the elections are progressing well and we expect the exercise to be concluded tomorrow. The environment is quite peaceful and come elections we will put our president Nelson Chamisa in office. We are only worried with the printing of the ballot papers which remains our issue with ZEC," he said.

Bulawayo's ward 9 councillor, Charles Moyo is battling to represent the party against a former legislator in the constituency, Mr Samuel Sandla Khumalo for the Mpopoma-Pelandaba seat.
