President Mnangagwa will commission a new Technology Innovation Centre at the National University of Science and Technology (NUST), which has saved US$200,000 by taking over its construction projects.
This initiative follows Mnangagwa's "Nyika Inovakwa nevene vayo" (A nation is built by its own people) philosophy.
Higher Education Minister Professor Amon Murwira reported that, with government support and ministry guidance, NUST adopted a cost-saving construction model.
In two years, NUST has advanced the construction of the Professor Phineas-Mogorosi Makhurane Technovation Centre from 60% (over 15 years) to 76% completion, working with Bulawayo Polytechnic and other institutions.
The centre will be commissioned by President Mnangagwa during the university's graduation on November 15, 2024.
Additional projects include the Central Library, which will resume construction in 2025, expected to complete within 36 months, and various other buildings at different completion stages: Applied Chemistry (70%), Chemical Engineering (75%), and student accommodation (10%).
Ten blocks of student housing are progressing, with foundations completed and brickwork at 10%, to be finished within 9 to 18 months once construction resumes.
