Neighbours drag 'intoxicated teen' from burning house in Bulawayo
7 hrs ago | Views
Residents of New Lobengula in Bulawayo were startled late yesterday by a raging fire that engulfed a house in the neighborhood, illuminating the night sky with bright flames.
A teenager identified only as "Sbu," who lived in the affected home, narrowly escaped the inferno after being rescued by a neighbor. He was rushed to Mpilo Central Hospital for treatment, with suspicions that he may have suffered from smoke inhalation.
According to witnesses, Sbu appeared heavily intoxicated earlier in the evening, which might have delayed his reaction to the fire.
Bulawayo’s Fire Brigade called to the scene and suggested that the blaze could have been caused by a candle left unattended, although investigations are still ongoing.
Residents expressed concern over the frequent use of candles in the area due to electricity outages, warning that such incidents highlight the dangers posed by load shedding and unsafe lighting methods.
The incident has left the affected family homeless, with neighbors rallying to provide temporary relief. Local authorities are urging residents to take extra precautions when using open flames to prevent similar tragedies.
