The Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company (ZETDC) has announced that its prepaid electricity vending system is temporarily down due to ongoing system upgrades.
In a public notice issued on Monday, the power utility said customers will not be able to purchase electricity tokens from Monday, 20 October to Tuesday, 21 October 2025, as technicians carry out essential maintenance work.
"Customers are advised that the prepaid vending system will be unavailable during this period due to system upgrades," ZETDC said.
The temporary shutdown means that all platforms used to buy electricity - including mobile money services, banks, and online platforms - will be affected.
ZETDC urged customers to make advance purchases before the scheduled downtime to avoid inconvenience during the upgrade period.
The company said the exercise is part of its broader effort to enhance service efficiency and system reliability, following recurrent complaints from users about delayed token generation and transaction errors.
Operations are expected to resume on Wednesday, 22 October 2025 once the upgrades are complete.
