GURUVE - Villagers from Mazhambe in Guruve have expressed anger after being relocated by Eureka Gold Mine as the company extends its boundaries, saying the move has disrupted their livelihoods and access to essential services.
Residents told Bulawayo24.com that the relocation has left them far from the local growth point, with children now forced to walk long distances to school.
"The mine relocated us, but our challenge now is we are far from the growth point and our children are walking very long distances to school," lamented Tedius Mazhambe.
Another villager, Sekai Padya, said his horticulture business had collapsed due to the relocation.
"For years I survived on horticulture, but when Eureka relocated us my source of income was closed because I can no longer partake in my horticulture business. The new area has no dam or river to support my project," he said.
Contacted for comment, Eureka spokesperson Tinagao Tinago declined to confirm or deny the matter, saying:
"That issue is best answered by the District Development Coordinator (DDC) or the chief."
Attempts to get a response from Guruve DDC Innocent Mutsvenguri were unsuccessful.
