Solly Mapaila has called for the impeachment process against Cyril Ramaphosa to be accelerated following a recent Constitutional Court ruling that found Parliament acted unconstitutionally in blocking an earlier attempt to establish an impeachment inquiry committee in 2022.
Speaking during the Chris Hani commemoration in Bushbuckridge on Sunday, Mapaila warned that delays in the impeachment process could have serious consequences for state-owned infrastructure and public assets.
He accused the Government of National Unity (GNU) of pursuing policies aimed at privatising key state entities, particularly Eskom.
"The GNU government wants to sell Eskom. They want to put Eskom in the market, and they think we don't know that. They are collaborating with the IMF. That will never happen as long as we are alive in South Africa," Mapaila said.
He welcomed the Constitutional Court judgment delivered by Mandisa Maya, which ruled that Parliament should establish an impeachment committee to determine whether Ramaphosa remains fit to hold office.
Mapaila further alleged that business interests linked to programmes such as Operation Vulindlela were influencing government policy from within the Presidency, describing it as "a new form of state capture."
His remarks come amid growing tensions between the African National Congress and the South African Communist Party over dual party membership ahead of the 2026 local government elections.
The ANC has reportedly instructed members who also belong to the SACP to indicate within 10 days which party they intend to support in the upcoming elections, following an NEC decision to enforce constitutional rules prohibiting dual membership in competing political parties.
