A 41-year-old Masvingo businesswoman allegedly lost a car and household items worth thousands of dollars to three robbers who raided her house while she was away on a business trip.

Masvingo police spokesperson Inspector Peter Zhanero said the incident happened at Beza Farm on Thursday at about 2pm.

He, however, said the vehicle,a Nissan MP 300 was recovered in Mvuma. Insp Zhanero said the trio disappeared after committing the offence and are still at large.

"I can confirm receiving a robbery case in which a local businesswoman lost a car and other household items that include jewellery costing several thousands of dollars. The suspects disappeared soon after committing the crime and they are still on the run. However, the car was recovered, abandoned in Mvuma," he said.

Narrating her ordeal, Insp Zhanero said on the day in question the robbers went to the businesswoman's house at Beza Farm where they found two people and masqueraded as genuine passersby in need of water to drink.

"After they were allowed into the yard by a maid, one of them produced a pellet gun while the other brandished a knife," said the police spokesperson.

Insp Zhanero said the pair kept their victims captive before leading them into the bedroom where they started assaulting them with open hands. They took away their cellphones to avoid any communication.

"While in the bedroom, they took away two large suitcases full of clothes and ransacked the whole house getting away with a number of household items. The property includes jewellery worth several hundreds of dollars," said Insp Zhanero. He said another robber got into the vehicle and drove it along Harare road leaving his accomplices behind.

"The suspect drove the car along Harare road. On the way, he picked up a female passenger who was going to Harare. "When he arrived in Mvuma, he stopped the car and came out of the vehicle pretending to be looking for change but disappeared leaving the woman inside," said Insp Zhanero.

After two hours sitting in the car, the woman became suspicious and alerted a police officer who was on patrol."The police in Mvuma made their investigations and realised that the car was stolen and quickly alerted the owner. However, the suspect had long gone and could not be located," he said.

Meanwhile, on the same day at about 3am Redan Filling Station at Mpandawana Growth Point in Gutu allegedly lost $4 500 to robbers at gunpoint after they tied a fuel attendant, Mr Alias Moyo and security guard, Mr Wilfanos Munoitei to a pole.

The robbers are believed to have been five, are still at large and police have since launched a manhunt.

"After they were allowed into the yard by a maid, one of them produced a pellet gun while the other brandished a knife."
