Medical doctor fined for shoplifting

A HARARE medical doctor who stole groceries from OK Supermarket was yesterday fined $200. Paul Kadungure (32) told magistrate Mr Nomsa Sabarauta, that he was sorry for his behaviour saying the incident was an embarrassment.

"What happened was an honest mistake. I am so sorry," he said. Magistrate Mr Sabarauta slapped Kadungure with a wholly suspended six-month jail term on condition he does not steal again in five years.

It was established Kadungure was a serial shoplifter after he appeared before the same court and was convicted of theft and fined $100 or 30 days in prison.

Kadungure of number 725 Excett Building, City Doctors, Robert Mugabe Road in Harare, pleaded guilty to theft.

Prosecutor Ms Shambadzeni Fungura, said on Monday Kadungure entered OK Fife Avenue and loaded 12 canned castle beer, two viceroy bottles, five packs of goat chops, probrands lemon and lime drink, a kilogramme of onions, chicken cutlet, pork leg, Irvines shrink eggs, a kilogram of tomatoes, Kleenex baby soft tissues, beef short ribs, pork shoulder chops, brisket and chakalaka Boerewors into a trolley.

He pushed the trolley and put it aside before taking a moojoos daily pine and one carrier bag to the till. He paid $0.60 for the two items and went back for his trolley pushing it towards the exit.

He was caught at the exit point.
