Kwekwe Trio sentencing a manifestation of injustice

07 Jan 2017 at 10:29hrs | Views
It is with deep agony to learn that the ZANU-PF government remains unashamed of their ridiculous and ruthless actions as evidenced by the unjustifiable conviction and sentencing of three members of our party. It flummoxes the mind on how a person can be convicted of participating in a demonstration, a right meant to be enjoyed by every citizen as clearly enshrined in our constitution. This recent sad development vindicates us on what we have always said that the government of Zimbabwe is not compliant to the constitution but only complies to their insatiable appetite to victimize and intimidate activists.

The three, Panganai Sithole, Weston Masiya and Tendai Virimayi, like many other progressive citizens concerned about the prevalent deteriorating situation took it to the streets to register their discontent and instead of the government responding to their concerns they have responded with a conviction. It is really sad especially considering that it comes barely a month after the sentencing of Yvonne Musarurwa, Tungamirai Madzokere and Last Maingehama.

With this, we are more than convinced that this current trend of convictions is a desperate measure by the panicking regime to victimize and intimidate us as we march towards a new Zimbabwe. However, I would like to categorically state at this point that we will never at any point back down when it comes to demanding what we deserve and that which belongs to us. We deserve democracy, peace and justice in our lifetime and as such we will continue fighting for that until we get it. Our fight goes beyond this series of politically motivated convictions aimed at silencing our voices at a time were evidence is written all over that the people of Zimbabwe are fed up with a ZANU-PF government.

I would like to take this opportunity to warn Robert Mugabe and his ZANU-PF sect to stop fooling themselves that they will silence us by continuously jailing activists, rather it serves as a lubricant to the fighting machinery within us. We will not fold our hands when our justice system has slowly become an extension of ZANU-PF. We are more than determined to reclaim our dignity and pride as such we will not stop at anything until we claim our deserved freedom.

We will never normalize the abnormal, neither will we accept the unacceptable, our comrades are not guilty and we all know that. As such we will intensify our actions of resistance with each day to secure the freedom of our comrades who have regrettably fallen prey to the injustice hands of ZANU-PF. I therefore at this point urge all progressive citizens of Zimbabwe to join us as we take a further step to save our nation from further demise.
