'Baby dumped' Zim students in Algeria, Cuba and Russia suffering

16 Nov 2014 at 20:30hrs | Views
I was so joyful when I received a letter that I was admitted for a scholarship to study abroad on the foundation that the government will pay the stipends for our day to day living in a foreign country and I was so excited that finally I am going to learn under equal conditions with students i left in the country.

I want to tell the whole world that these scholarships given to Zimbabwean students by countries like Cuba, Algeria and Russia with the pretext that we are going to be supported by Zimbabwean government, are just some sought of stress, a small oubliette, I don't know why are we being chastised, this government just abandoned and dumped us here in these foreign countries.

How can this government give scholarships to go and stay in foreign countries lying to the people that they are going to support them and when students reach the respective countries, they pretend as if everything in that country is perfect yet students skirmish every day without food, eating all the dirty foods, struggling in a foreign country to survive doing illegal business, this is what we call baby dumping, this is being reckless and careless.

You are not responsible of anything and if you could have elucidated before us coming here that you are not going to support us, I am sure that only the children of  the so called political bigwigs could only benefit and us poor people  were not going to come to this netherworld. These scholarships to study abroad are supposed to be given to you rich people.

I am far away from home, having both of my parents dead, can't even send me cent since our dear economy was dollarized, coupled with corruption at all levels in and out of government. Since l came here, l was never paid the full stipend and l spent many years in the same country languishing like a street kid.

Imagine that the government is not willing to pay me all my stipends since 2010 and I am accumulating credits every year, and I am going to tell the world that if things continue to go like this I will do whatever it will cost me to pay for my daily expenses, some girls and boys right now are now strippers in bars, and there are cases of students selling marijuana and doing drugs to resolve their daily expenses.

The population of Zimbabwe should profoundly condemn the way this government is managing educational stipends for students before things could go far. we ask where our money is going and we know that each year  a budget is given and this same department gets money from the ministry of finance .These stipends are planned for,  even before an academic year begins. We now ask, if  the planned money is released where does it go.

We are tired of the same stories that the Zimbabwean economy is broke and us how are we going to stay in these foreign countries. To our surprise there are pockets of others which remain fat all the time. We wonder why. These scholarships are not given on political grounds but on government level and we should not be the ones suffering.

They say we are not appreciative, of what if we are starving in foreign countries, should we be grateful of going to school with empty stomachs. The thing is the truth hurts and we want the president to hear us that the basis in which these scholarships were established were to help the poor to gain some education.

This issue has been raised by students in various countries and our dear MINISTER KNOWS IT and even including Cde SKMoyo. Now it seems that there are some sharks busy benefiting from the same process which should benefit humble people.

They stand on high ground shouting that other people are corrupt but we want this issue to be also addressed as some are in their final years and there is need to do thesis  to defend for reasons of graduation and this requires resources. It's a shame to hear that's some students that graduated left debts and had to snick from the respective countries that they were in just to avoid the people whom they owed.

Some have even been taken by other foreign students to other embassies to reclaim their debts. What a shame for real we are passing and everyone knows we are the most poor. How can l learn well with an empty stomach, no one to cry to when l know l have a family looking forward for my return in a couple of years to come with a degree in my hand. L have lost hope of being saved one day.

ALL I CAN SAY THE RICH WILL REMAIN RICH WHILE THE POOR REMAIN AT THE BOTTOM LEVEL BEING TRAMPLED BY ALL.

We are seeking the reply of the president of the nation to hear our issue because this issue seems to be repeating itself each year and it seems as if there is a syndicate which is always playing the same game all the time and they seem to be winning all the time.
