Tsvangirai faces Doom

22 Jan 2015 at 09:46hrs | Views
At this moment in time fresh storm is brewing in the MDC-T with party leader, Morgan Tsvangirai, threatening to dissolve the party's provincial structures accused of waging a social media campaign to hold another elective congress next year to choose new leadership.

The need for a push for a fresh congress comes three months after the opposition party held an extraordinary congress in Harare following the defection of several top officials to the MDC Renewal Team. In a bid to pursue its agenda, a group of disgruntled party members are lobbying through media social platforms WhatsApp and Facebook for the party to hold another congress in 2016 in line with the party's original plans.

The party members are not happy with some of the constitutional amendments adopted at the congress, especially the decision to give Tsvangirai wide executive powers to run the party. It is alleged that Tsvangirai have read the riot act when he met the Harare provincial executive recently and threatened to wield the axe on party members involved in the alleged campaign.

The campaign is being organised and fuelled by the losing candidates to ensure that they bounce back into the political limelight. This grossly shows that the MDC-T is yet to recover from the rifts created by the last congress. The party is also battling to maintain its relevance as the government-in waiting following its crushing defeat by the mighty and untouchable ZANU-PF in the 2013 harmonised general elections.

Mr Tsvangirai is now sick from stress arising from political dynamics associated with his diminished circumstances in his political party and the potential fall from his political pedestal. The man has an overinflated ego and a grandiose image of himself. A dangerous mix of corrupt tendencies, extreme appetite of power characterise Tsvangirai's time when he was once a powerful opposition leader.

In some countries silly seasons come and go, but in MDC silliness is not seasonal. It is a perennial feature, going on for years, to the point of unmasking all pretenses of wisdom and revealing deep levels of idiocy. It is now a fascinating paradox that the party advocated against land reform and they are now calling for land allocation to all citizens.

That is the MDC we know that is clueless, unorganized and a bunch of cartoons. Fighting is the order of the day. No wonder why it splinted five times. This shows that no one of them have the nation at heart but think of power to fatten their pockets.
