Coaches Lloyd Chitembwe (caps United) and Rahman Gumbo (Chicken Inn) have been fined by the Premier Soccer League for snubbing post-match interviews, as sponsors warned they would not tolerate violations of the league's rules. Gumbo snubbed the post-match interview after his side had succumbed 1-2 to Caps United in May.

The temperamental Chitembwe, who has led a massive revival at title aspirants Makepekepe, also has the same charge sheet, and the duo will have to pay US$125 each for their actions.

Delta Beverages, the sponsors of the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League, reiterated during the week that it was a set standard for coaches to avail themselves for both pre- and post-match interviews.

"The Castle Premier Soccer League should ensure that this is happening at all times," said Patricia Murambinda, Delta Beverages marketing manager.
The league has witnessed a worrying trend where coaches are delegating their assistants or a member of the technical team to handle pre-match interviews.

PSL chief executive officer Kenny Ndebele said the league was taking measures to end such behaviour.
"The Castle Lager Premier Soccer League is aware that certain coaches have not been availing themselves for post-match interviews as required.
"The following coaches, Lloyd Chitembwe and Rahman Gumbo, have been fined," read a statement from the CEO's office.

"According to PSL Standing Orders all clubs are obliged to make available the head coach for post- match interviews failure of which will attract a fine for the coach and the club."

The PSL urged clubs to employ media liaison officers to assist in managing the relationship between the clubs and the Press.
Ndebele said the league would not take action on coaches without receiving formal complaints.

The veteran football administrator also said it was tricky in the case of pre-match interviews as some coaches would be busy finalising game preparations.

The PSL will this week host a three-day workshop in Harare aimed at improving the relationship between the clubs and the media.
