A SUSPECTED rapist allegedly committed suicide yesterday morning - just before police could arrest him.
The 57-year-old man from Krugersdorp on the West Rand of South Africa, was wanted in connection with the rape of his 14-year-old step-daughter.
According to police spokesman Lieutenant-Colonel Lungelo Dlamini, the girl had accused the man of repeatedly raping her.
"A case of rape was opened and he was to be questioned," Dlamini said.
Having failed to turn himself in at the police station as promised, the police went looking for him. However, when they arrived at his place he was not present.
A community member then called the police, alerting them about the discovery of a dead body at a local park.
