EFF leader Julius Malema donned his gown and walked on to the Unisa stage on Wednesday to receive his Bachelor of Arts degree, News24.com reported.
Malema graduating with a BA degree and a major in political science.
It was a night of joy for Malema and his supporters. As he walked into the ZK Mathews Hall, those inside cheered and ululated as he took his seat.
Cameras snapped away as journalists tried to get a picture of him.
Sitting in the front row were his wife, Mantwa, and his grandmother, Sarah, with leaders of his party sitting behind them. EFF leaders all wore their graduation gowns and belts.
As he made his way to the stage to receive his degree, the hall erupted with screams. His family danced in the front.
Malema took a bow after getting his belt. With fist high in the air, Malema walked off. People shook his hand as he returned to his seat.
Early on in his political career, the former ANC Youth League president's matric results came under the spotlight when an emailed list did the rounds showing that he had only achieved an H in maths and a G in woodwork, both on the Standard Grade (SG).
Malema passed matric with Es in Sepedi HG and second language Afrikaans HG, an F in geography HG, D in history SG and a C in second language English HG, the latter being his highest mark.
The EFF's Commander In Chief started studying for his diploma and then his degree when he was still part of the ANC and facing disciplinary charges as ANC Youth League leader.
He missed the verdict on his disciplinary hearing in November 2011 because he was writing exams. In April 2012, Malema was eventually expelled from the ANC, after losing his appeal.
The EFF was also turning 3-years-old this year, so during the formation of the party, Malema was studying and writing exams.
He was also studying while facing corruption charges in the Polokwane High Court and during his SA Revenue Service court case.
The corruption charges against Malema were struck off the roll in August last year, while in June Sars withdrew its application to have the provisional sequestration order against him made final.
