THE ruling party Zanu-PF can reach its targeted five million votes in next year's harmonised elections with the vital support of women and the church, Zanu-PF Politburo member Monica Mutsvangwa said yesterday.
Zanu-PF has embarked on an ambitious drive to drum up support from the grassroots and it aims to attain five million votes in the 2023 harmonised elections.
In a speech read on her behalf by Beitbridge Senator Tambudzani Mohadi at the Prophet Emmanuel Mutumwa's Johane Masowe WeChishanhu Selborne Park suburb church in Bulawayo, Mutsvangwa, who is also the Minister of Information Publicity and Broadcasting Services, implored women to play an active role in making sure Zanu-PF wins resoundingly in next year's elections.
"Women are the cornerstone of our communities and families so it's important that we take an active role in the political landscape of our country.
"The ruling party wants to garner five million votes in next year's elections and that target can be reached with the support of women and the church.
"I call upon women to go out there and garner support for the ruling party right from the grassroots level," said Mutsvangwa.
Speaking at the same event, Prophet Mutumwa said his church's followers have always embraced Zanu-PF as they are convinced it is the only party that will better the lives of Zimbabweans.
"Our President has always emphasised that church and women are important in cementing the social fabric of our society.
"Here at Johanne Masowe WeChishanu, every man knows that we don't condone the ill-treatment of women and children. Women are the backbone of our nation and they should be given the respect and appreciation they deserve," said Prophet Mutumwa.
Meanwhile, Mr Emmerson Mnangagwa Jnr celebrated Easter Sunday at the same church yesterday.
Mr Mnangagwa is in Bulawayo for the Independence Day celebrations that are taking place today at Barbourfields Stadium.
In an interview, Madzibaba Mutumwa said Mr Mnangagwa had come to celebrate the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ at his church.
"Like all Christians gathered throughout churches in Zimbabwe, Mr Mnangagwa had come to observe Easter at our church. Our church is a church for all Zimbabweans and we are open to everyone and we are happy to host such an important guest," said Madzibaba Mutumwa.
