A man from Mgiqwa village in Ntabazinduna, Matabeleland North province was struck with a log and a stone after he tried to play peacemaker while attempting to restrain his neighbour who was assaulting his wife.
Daniel Ndaba paid dearly for playing peacemaker in a domestic dispute between an infuriated Kenneth Nyathi (28) and his wife.
This was heard when Nyathi appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Busani Sibanda facing a charge of assault.
Nyathi pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 12 months in jail. He however heaved a sigh of relief when six months of the sentence were suspended for five years on condition of good behaviour.
The remaining six months were further suspended on condition that he performs 210 hours of community service at ZRP Mbizo for six weeks.
The court heard that on 20 November 2022 and at around 9pm, Nyathi was having a misunderstanding with his wife, when his neighbour Ndaba intervened since he was drunk.
This, however, angered Nyathi who then struck Ndaba with a log and a stone on the head and face.
Ndaba, who sustained a deep cut on his head and lips was taken to hospital for medical attention.
