The Seventh-day Adventist (SDA) Church has announced that its new university in Chegutu, Mashonaland West, will welcome its first students in January 2026. Named Great Height University, the upcoming institution will be the church's second university in Zimbabwe after Solusi University in Bulawayo.
During a tour of the construction site on Monday, 23 June 2025, Mashonaland West Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Hon. Marian Chombo, commended the church for stepping up where many had only made promises. She said the progress being made was not only impressive but also a symbol of true commitment to uplifting communities.
"You have one goal: development. When we come to Chegutu, we witness tangible progress. The works are visible to all. For years, we hoped for a second university in this province, and we never imagined that our own SDA Church would rise to the occasion. You have made us proud," she said.
The SDA Church already runs over 165 schools across Zimbabwe, and according to Church President Pastor Godfrey Musara, their education efforts go beyond serving just Adventist members. He said the mission is to uplift entire communities and work closely with the government on development.
"Our mission is inclusive. These schools and institutions are not solely for church members, but for the entire Zimbabwean community. The province shall be put to map. You have been with us since the beginning of the work here. We, as SDA we shall always work together with the government in improving peoples' welfare through development," SDA Church President, Pastor Godfrey Musara said.
Engineer Albert Machando, the church member leading the project, said Great Height University is part of a long-term vision where education is central to the church's mission. He described the institution as a major milestone in making that vision real.
