A MAN from Mahatshula North, who was arrested while wearing a full police uniform, and being in possession of handcuffs, is on the run after he defaulted court appearance.

Ekem Ncube (35) was not asked to plead to the charge of illegally wearing a police uniform when he initially appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Sheunesu Matova on January 8.

The magistrate had remanded him out of custody to January 9, 2015 but he did not turn up prompting the court to issue a warrant of arrest against him.

The court heard that on January 4 2015 the complainant a police sergeant, Stephen Chabata (36), was on patrol together with other police officers at Centenary Park in Bulawayo.

They saw Ncube sitting in the park wearing a police uniform, which included a Stu Cap, a pair of riot police trousers, a grey police shirt, a web belt, titles and had handcuffs and their keys.

He also had an old police constabulary identity card, which was no longer valid.
