The Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC) has initiated investigations into allegations of sexual harassment involving senior managers. Robson Mhandu, the Director for radio services, and Scott "DJ Scott" Matengambiri, the station manager for Power FM, were recently suspended on charges of allegedly requesting sexual favors from their subordinates.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, ZBC informed its stakeholders that they had received two reports of sexual harassment in September 2023. They have since commenced investigations into these allegations, and the disciplinary processes are currently underway. The outcomes of these investigations will be communicated to stakeholders at an appropriate time.
Mhandu, who goes by the nickname "Shumba" due to his totem, was implicated through recordings and WhatsApp messages involving a female employee who had requested a transfer from Bulawayo to Harare.
Scott is accused of coercing a female subordinate into providing oral sex as a condition for securing her employment.
On the other hand, ZBC's news and current affairs director, Albert Chekayi, and news bulletins manager, Effort Magoso, have been cleared of similar sexual harassment allegations.
The broadcaster expressed concern regarding allegations against Magoso and Chekayi circulating on social media and clarified that no such reports were ever officially recorded or received.
ZBC emphasized that its employees are expected to adhere to the code of conduct, and the corporation has a zero-tolerance policy regarding sexual harassment in the workplace.
