The City of Kadoma is in mourning after two municipal workers tragically lost their lives while attempting to fix a sewer blockage near St John Kennedy Primary School on Thursday, November 28, 2024.
The victims, Tafadzwa Guzo and Tinotenda Ngwenya, were part of a team responding to a sewer issue when they suffocated from suspected gas poisoning. Guzo was pronounced dead at the scene, while Ngwenya passed away shortly after being rushed to Kadoma Hospital.

In an official statement, Kadoma Town Clerk, Mr. Malvern Dondo, expressed the local authority's profound sadness over the incident. "The City of Kadoma is deeply saddened by the tragic death of two workers in a suspected gas poisoning incident near John Kennedy Primary School," Dondo wrote.
He further explained that the emergency response team, which was dispatched immediately after the incident was reported, attempted to save the workers but was unsuccessful.
"Despite the efforts by our emergency team, which was dispatched after the incident was reported, both workers could not make it. The City is collaborating with relevant authorities in investigating the circumstances of the incident. Our priority is to understand the events that led to this tragedy and ensure the safety of all workers," said Dondo.
