CAPS United players offered no bonus to beat MWOS

CAPS United president Farai Jere has ruled out any increase in players' winning bonuses ahead of Thursday's Premier Soccer League showdown against high-flying MWOS, insisting the Ruwa-based side does not yet warrant special treatment.
Jere, speaking during a training session with the squad earlier this week, made it clear that the US$500 winning bonus would remain unchanged despite MWOS' impressive unbeaten run in the 2024 Castle Lager Premier Soccer League season. He said additional incentives are only reserved for matches against traditional powerhouses Dynamos and Highlanders.
"The fact that MWOS are the team of the moment doesn't warrant them to be a big team," said Jere. "As CAPS United, we appreciate that they are playing well, but we are not going to increase our winning bonuses. The bonuses will remain at US$500. We only increase our winning bonuses when we are playing either Dynamos or Highlanders."
The remarks add spice to what is already a highly anticipated clash at Ngoni Stadium, with MWOS currently second on the log, just one point behind leaders Simba Bhora.
CAPS United, who have only suffered two defeats this season-against Highlanders and TelOne away-are eager to prove their pedigree against a team Jere views as unproven in Zimbabwean football's elite hierarchy.
The fixture is part of a packed midweek PSL schedule. On Wednesday, Highlanders secured a crucial 1-0 away victory over Manica Diamonds, while TelOne and ZPC Kariba shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw. FC Platinum and Herentals played to a goalless stalemate, while Green Fuel and Scottland battled to a 2-2 draw.
Simba Bhora edged Bikita Minerals 1-0 to climb to the summit of the table with 32 points from 16 matches. Chicken Inn stunned defending champions Ngezi Platinum Stars with a 1-0 win.
With MWOS on 31 points from 15 matches, Scottland in third on 27 points, and TelOne fourth with 25 points, Thursday's fixtures could significantly shape the title race. Dynamos, meanwhile, will host Yadah at Rufaro Stadium, and Kwekwe United face Triangle United at Bata Stadium in Gweru.
CAPS United fans will be watching closely to see if their team can back Jere's confidence with a commanding win-without the lure of additional bonuses.
