Chinese President Xi Jinping on Thursday proposed the elevation of relations between China and Zimbabwe to an All-Weather China–Zimbabwe Community with a Shared Future, as he held talks with President Emmerson Mnangagwa at the Great Hall of the People.

President Mnangagwa is in China for the commemoration of the 80th anniversary of the Victory of the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War.

Welcoming his counterpart, President Xi stressed the importance of drawing lessons from history to shape a peaceful and just international order.

"Together, we must all remember history, firmly uphold world peace, oppose power politics and stand up for international fairness and justice, and make the international order more just and equitable," President Xi said.

The meeting coincided with the 45th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two nations. President Xi said the Five-Star Ironclad friendship between China and Zimbabwe had deepened over the decades.

"I propose that we elevate this relationship to an All-Weather China–Zimbabwe Community with a Shared Future to set a prime example of solidarity and coordination between China and Africa, and in the Global South," he added.

President Mnangagwa thanked his host for the warm reception, emphasising Zimbabwe's commitment to its strategic partnership with China. He said Harare was eager to strengthen political trust and expand cooperation across multiple sectors in line with the aspirations of both peoples.
