The High Court of Zimbabwe has granted Bulawayo Ward 26 Councillor Mpumelelo Moyo bail pending appeal after his conviction on bribery charges.
Moyo, who had been sentenced to 18 months in prison, was released on US$200 bail as he challenges both his conviction and sentence.
He was found guilty of soliciting a US$20,000 bribe from Labenmon Investments in exchange for facilitating land allocation for the company's planned cement mixing plant in Cowdray Park.
The court ruled that Moyo's appeal had reasonable prospects of success, allowing him to remain out of custody while the matter is reviewed.
