The People's Revolutionary Party (MRP), led by President Thembisani Mfulongatshi Mpofu, successfully held two rallies over the weekend in Binga District, covering Lusulu and Chipale Villages, as part of its ongoing campaign to promote self-determination, freedom, and justice across Mthwakazi.

The events, held on October 11 and 12, marked a significant milestone in the party's grassroots mobilisation efforts. The MRP was joined by leaders of the Original ZAPU (O-ZAPU), under the leadership of Mathew Bhubesi Sibanda. The two movements were warmly received by villagers, signalling growing support for their shared call for unity, liberation, and regional empowerment across Matabeleland.

During both rallies, residents of Binga expressed their desire for unity among all opposition parties and called on leaders to work together in building a strong, coordinated front capable of challenging the ruling Zanu-PF government in future elections.

MRP President Thembisani Mfulongatshi Mpofu reiterated his party's commitment to achieving self-determination for Mthwakazi, describing it as the ultimate path to restoring dignity and prosperity for the people. O-ZAPU leaders echoed similar sentiments, emphasising the need for devolution of power as a means to ensure local communities have control over their governance and resources.

The Lusulu rally, organised by O-ZAPU, was briefly disrupted by Zanu-PF members who attempted to block the proceedings. Despite the interference, villagers stood firm and defended their right to free political association. The rally went ahead successfully after 4 PM, in what organisers described as a “powerful show of courage and growing political consciousness” among the people of Binga.

The following day, MRP held its Chipale rally in Ward 22, where large crowds gathered to show support for the party's message of liberation and people's empowerment. Party leaders urged unity, discipline, and resilience in the face of political repression, reminding communities that meaningful change begins with collective action.

The issue of Gukurahundi also featured prominently during the rallies. MRP and O-ZAPU leaders called for justice for victims and transparency in addressing the atrocities. They rejected the ongoing chiefs-led process initiated by the government, saying it lacks independence and credibility. Instead, they called for an internationally supervised investigation to ensure accountability and reconciliation.

MRP reaffirmed that true peace in Mthwakazi can only be achieved through truth and justice, insisting that the Gukurahundi genocide must be confronted honestly and resolved fairly.

As part of their growing cooperation, MRP and O-ZAPU announced joint community programs scheduled for Plumtree next weekend. The two movements are also preparing for a major Star Rally on December 18, 2025, in Nkayi South, Ward 14 — the birthplace of MRP President Mpofu. The rally is expected to be a landmark event celebrating unity and charting the way forward for Mthwakazi's political and socio-economic liberation.

Senior MRP officials who attended the Binga rallies included President Thembisani Mfulongatshi Mpofu, National Organiser Vumani Bhebhe, National Secretary for Legal Affairs Nkosilathi Khanye, National Secretary for Empowerment Bethany Mkhosana Ncube, and National Youth Chairperson Blessmore Nabela, alongside members of the party's Security Department.

The MRP reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to building a peaceful, self-governing Mthwakazi where equality, dignity, and opportunity prevail. The party called upon supporters to continue standing behind President Mpofu and his leadership as they push forward with the struggle for justice, self-determination, and people's empowerment.
