Vice President (Rtd) General Constantino Chiwenga has allegedly issued a strong warning to individuals and groups calling for a mass demonstration set for 17 October 2025, describing the planned action as illegal, irresponsible, and a direct threat to national peace and stability.
In a statement allegedly from the Vice President allegedly said the government would not tolerate any attempts to undermine peace and order in Zimbabwe.
"The Government of Zimbabwe will not tolerate any attempts to destabilise the peace and security that our people have worked so hard to maintain. Zimbabwe is a nation built on law and order, and no one is above the law," said Chiwenga.
He further emphasised that the so-called demonstration had not been authorised by the relevant authorities and was therefore in violation of national laws.
"Let me state categorically: the planned demonstration is unauthorised and illegal. I distance myself completely from those behind it and from anyone associated with such reckless behaviour," he declared.
Chiwenga cautioned that those found organising, promoting, or participating in the illegal march would face immediate arrest and prosecution, stressing that the government's response would be firm and decisive.
"Any person found organising, promoting, or participating in these illegal activities will be arrested and prosecuted without hesitation. The long arm of the law will catch up with all those bent on fermenting chaos, and justice will be swift," he warned.
The Vice President urged all peace-loving Zimbabweans to ignore the calls for the unlawful gathering and to continue with their normal activities.
"Our citizens must refuse to be misled by elements whose sole agenda is to cause instability and tarnish the image of our country," he said.
Law enforcement agencies, he noted, have been placed on full alert and will act decisively to safeguard lives, property, and the authority of the state under the leadership of His Excellency President Dr. Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa.
"Let us remain steadfast, vigilant, and committed to safeguarding the hard-won peace and stability of our nation," concluded the Vice President.
The warning comes as messages calling for public protests circulate online, with authorities vowing zero tolerance toward any illegal gatherings or acts that threaten national security. Ministry of and officials from the Department of Presidential Communications were unavailable to comment on the statement.
