President Emmerson Mnangagwa is set to launch the National Youth Empowerment Strategy on Wednesday during the National Youth Empowerment Symposium, which begins tomorrow at the Harare Agricultural Showgrounds. The strategy aims to provide a structured roadmap for youth development programming and coordination across Zimbabwe.
In a statement, Mr Ranson Madzamba, Director of Communication and Advocacy in the Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Development and Vocational Training, said preparations for the symposium are at an advanced stage.
"The symposium, running under the theme ‘Empower the Youth, Secure the Future', provides a platform for youth-to-youth learning, showcasing enterprises and sharing best practices. It also seeks to inspire innovation, productivity, and entrepreneurship among our young people," he said.
Mr Madzamba noted that the symposium will bring together thousands of youths from across the country to engage with the Government, development partners, and the private sector.
"The youth constitute the bulk of our population and represent a demographic dividend we must capitalise on. Unemployment among young people must be addressed strategically, especially for those not in education, employment, or training," he added.
According to the Zimbabwe National Statistics Agency's 2024 survey, an estimated 2,3 million youths are not in education, employment, or training (NEET). The symposium will focus on creating opportunities for these youths to be productive and competitive, both for their personal development and the nation's economy.
Mr Madzamba emphasised that the symposium will also facilitate networking between young people, Government agencies, private sector players, development partners, and successful entrepreneurs, providing a national platform to exchange ideas and best practices.
The launch of the National Youth Empowerment Strategy on October 22 is expected to formalise a framework for youth empowerment initiatives, marking a significant step in structured youth development and economic participation in Zimbabwe.
