Police in Zimbabwe are investigating a viral video that reportedly shows a self-proclaimed prophet sexually abusing women under the guise of spiritual guidance.

The footage appears to depict the prophet engaging in inappropriate and coercive acts with vulnerable women, who were allegedly told the abuse was part of a spiritual cleansing or a means to relieve personal burdens.

Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed that authorities are actively investigating the matter. "We are aware of the video since it has gone viral, and the ZRP is running investigations to arrest the perpetrators, as the act is a criminal offence, whether for content creation or otherwise, as it is pornographic," Nyathi said.

He added that complaints have been received in Chitungwiza regarding the so-called "Madzibaba," who allegedly abuses women while offering to help them with issues such as barrenness. Authorities have yet to publicly reveal the prophet's identity.

The incident has sparked outrage within the community, with many calling for justice and accountability. Reports indicate that the prophet may have exploited his position of power to manipulate women, resulting in both physical and emotional harm.

This development comes as the police continue to urge victims, both locally and abroad, who claim to have been abused or defrauded by well-known prophet Walter Magaya to come forward and open cases against him. Magaya is currently out on bail facing multiple charges of fraud and rape.

Authorities have repeatedly warned the public about self-styled prophets exploiting vulnerable individuals seeking help, emphasizing that such acts will be treated as serious criminal offences.
