Drama unfolded in Sadomba last week following the arrest and court appearance of Zanu-PF Member of Parliament for Makonde Constituency, Simbarashe Ziyambi, in connection with a shooting incident linked to an alleged mining dispute.

According to sources, Ziyambi is accused of shooting Makonde resident Andrian Magura during clashes over a mining dispute in the Sadomba area. The injured man was reportedly first taken to a local doctor in Chinhoyi before later being transferred to Chinhoyi Provincial Hospital for further treatment.

Reports further allege that after the incident, Magura was initially taken back to his home in Ruvimbo, Chinhoyi, in what some sources described as an attempt to conceal the shooting before police became aware of the matter.

Police later tracked down both the MP and the victim. Ziyambi reportedly surrendered himself voluntarily to law enforcement before appearing in court.

Investigators are also said to have uncovered a separate issue involving an allegedly expired firearm licence during questioning by CID detectives in Chinhoyi.

The MP was first arraigned before the magistrates' court alongside five other accused persons on charges of public violence, arising from alleged gunfire during violent clashes linked to the mining dispute.

The group was granted US$100 bail each and ordered to report to CID Chinhoyi every two weeks while also being barred from interfering with witnesses.

In a separate appearance before regional magistrate Franklin Mhukwananzi, Ziyambi faced additional charges of discharging a firearm and kidnapping.

He was granted bail on the more serious charges and is expected to return to court later this month.

The case has been remanded to May 26, 2026, on the public violence charge and May 27, 2026, on the firearm and kidnapping charges.

Ziyambi was represented in both matters by lawyer Kudzai Choga as proceedings continue.
