The Zanu PF Insiza North Constituency Women’s League has held a district meeting to mobilise support for the Constitution of Zimbabwe Amendment Bill No. 3, with members expressing strong backing for the proposed changes.
The meeting, held on 9 March, was attended by senior party officials including Politburo member Senator Esther Nyathi, Insiza North legislator Delani Moyo, Sindisiwe Nleya, Clara Langa, proportional representation councillor Silengani Moyo, Sihle Mathe, District Coordinating Committee member Felence Sikhosana, and the host, Ward 23 Councillor Sikhanyisiwe Nkomo.
All 13 wards in Insiza North were represented. Affiliate groups such as Patriotic Vendors4ED, Mapostori4ED, Young Women4ED and Teachers4ED also attended in support of the campaign.
The meeting began with singing and dancing to rally songs before Councillor Nkomo took centre stage, donating US$1 500 to the 13 Women’s League chairladies — each receiving US$100.
She also pledged 200 loaves of bread, 20 broiler chickens and a 40kg beef lunch for attendees. Senator Esther Nyathi and Matabeleland South Women’s League chairlady Sindisiwe Nleya each received a goat as a gift. Councillor Nkomo further donated fuel to transport members from across the constituency to the venue.
Food items including rice, mealie‑meal, beef, mineral water and cakes branded “Amendment Bill No. 3” were provided for attendees.
In an interview, Councillor Nkomo said bringing people together required sacrifice and commitment to national development goals.
“By empowering chairladies, it shows that good living is coming with Bill No. 3. Empowerment remains the cornerstone of the revolution. Leaders must be empowered as they carry out Bill No. 3 through door‑to‑door mobilisation,” she said.
Patriotic Vendors4ED Matabeleland South provincial chairperson Thobekile Mafu praised Councillor Nkomo for supporting the constitutional amendment programme.
Speaker after speaker outlined the importance of the proposed amendment and encouraged women to mobilise their communities to understand its objectives.
Senator Nyathi explained the process leading to the current stage of the amendment proposal, noting that it began at district level before being forwarded to the provincial structures, then to the Zanu PF Congress in Mutare, and finally to Parliament for nationwide consultations.
She commended Councillor Nkomo’s contributions for ensuring the meeting’s success.
Nleya told attendees that the Women’s League supports the proposal to extend the presidential term from five to seven years, arguing that frequent elections strain national resources and create divisions within party structures. She added light‑heartedly that she would welcome two more years in office for the current leadership.
At the end of the meeting, all women in attendance were served lunch as a token of appreciation.
