The High Court circuit sitting in Hwange has sentenced two men, Prayer Mpofu (25) and Gamelihle Ndlovu (30), to 20 years each after convicting them of murder.
The court heard that on 27 May 2025 at New Makhaya Village 6A, Deli in Nyamandlovu, the now‑deceased, Professor Siamafuno (35), accused the pair of stealing his goats. A misunderstanding escalated throughout the day and later turned violent.
At around 9pm, the offenders force‑marched Siamafuno to the homestead of their accomplice, Edwell Mpofu, under the guise of resolving the dispute. Once there, the trio launched a brutal assault.
The offenders took turns beating the victim with a sjambok and a knobkerrie, while the accomplice stabbed him several times in the head with an okapi knife, killing him.
The following day, the men attempted to burn the body before burying it in a shallow grave behind the homestead.
The crime was uncovered on 2 June 2025 when villagers noticed flies hovering over the burial site. The decomposed and partially burnt body was discovered, leading to the arrest of the two men. Their accomplice remains at large.
Authorities warned that community disputes must never be resolved through violence and that those who take the law into their own hands will face severe consequences.
