WARRIORS and Orlando Pirates striker Tendai Ndoro yesterday visited former AmaZulu tough tackling defender David Mkandawire, now a beggar in Johannesburg, South Africa after years of professional football.
Mkandawire, who played in Zimbabwe, India and South Africa, has fallen on hard times and now begs in Kempton Park, Johannesburg.
Ndoro, who moved to South Africa from Chicken Inn, posted a picture of himself and Mkandawire on his Facebook timeline and said, without elaborating that the big former national team defender had an untold story why he was now living on the streets.
"David Mkandawire was my role model, but tears were rolling down my cheeks when he was trying to elaborate his touching story to me. Things can change instantly. We all need to be very careful who is happy for you or who you deal with in life. Those who have a heart to help, check him at Shoprite in Kempton Park," Ndoro posted on his wall.
Former Highlanders goalkeeper, Tapuwa Kapini told South African daily publication The New Age that three Zimbabwean players had contributed money to help Mkandawire by ensuring his mother acquires a passport to travel to Johannesburg from Malawi to take him home.
