International hotel group Raddison Hotel Group, with 1 100 hotels around the world, has expressed interest in building a hotel in Zimbabwe's second largest city of Bulawayo.
Radisson Hotel Group is one of the world's largest and most dynamic hotel groups with seven distinctive hotel brands with more than 1,100 hotels in destinations around the world.
Their portfolio of hotel brands includes Radisson Collection, Radisson Blu, Radisson, Radisson RED, Park Plaza, Park Inn by Radisson and Country Inn & Suites by Radisson.
Bulawayo director of engineering Simela Dube, in a report to the Bulawayo City Council said Mkhuze Global Investments, a special purpose vehicle that looked at various investment opportunities in the SADC region had approached the city with the offer.
"They draw a wide range of expertise in various fields and industries, and through Mkhuze Global Investments the Radisson Group of Hotels had expressed interest in developing a Hotel within Bulawayo.
"The Radisson Hotel Group had opened a new hotel in Africa every 60 days over the last 24 months and they had added a new hotel to their pipeline in Africa every 37 days. Setting up a hotel in Bulawayo would had a great impact on the economy of Bulawayo as the increase in the number of beds in Bulawayo would enable the city to attract major conferences and events would also bring great employment opportunities from the construction phase up to the stage when it's operational," reads a council report.
In response, the BCC resolved to form an interdepartmental committee to negotiate with Mkhuze Global Investments on behalf of Radisson Hotel Group in the proposal to develop a hotel in the City.
