Abafana bakaMzilikazi Maskandi group based in South Africa have released a a thrilling DVD of Maskandi music.

Beven Tshuma, a manager of a maskandi music group based in Tembisa Johannesburg led by a Tsholotsho born artist said the long awaited DVD from the Mthwakazi maskandi kings of stage Abafana bakaMzilikazi has finally been released.

The crack DVD is loaded with non stop entertainment for more than an hour of high quality videos.

"Usizi is the title of the DVD which is the second such project for the group under the leadership of veteran Tsholotsho born maskandi musician Doit Menzi Nkomo. It comes as a follow up to the group's first DVD titled "Ungubab' Onjani" which was released in 2013 and was a huge success arguably the highest selling DVD by a Zimbabwean born maskandi artist to date," Tshuma said.

"The new project is currently selling like hot cakes and is bound to break the sales records if the trend continues as expected into the festive period."

The HD quality DVD boasts of 12 tracks shot from different locations in and around Johannesburg.

"One of the highlights is the scene shot at a Heritage day festival in Tembisa where the group gave a breathtaking performance that left the audience perplexed at the announcement by the master or ceremony that the group is led by Zimbabwean born talent," he said.

He said the performance was so outstanding  such that it  electrified the audience which could not hold back its excitement and had to pull down the steel barriers to get a closer look at the maskandi stage champions doing their magic.

"The DVD starts with the hit track ‘isxaxa samabhimbi' in which the greater part is a plain display of the master's footwork on stage through scintillating, synchronized dance moves. The title track USIZI is so far the most beloved video judging by the feedback from fans who have watched the DVD, it is role played to perfection such that it easily connects the message in the song with the audience as it highlights the plight of the poor and extreme levels of suffering in the community," he said.

"The DVD also touches on other aspects of life such as religion, social issues and love as evidenced through a slow jam hit track DALI which features a renowned Johannesburg hip hop artist Samta who spices up the track with some hard core love lyrics. The love track is also articulately sciptured and acted and is bound to spread some love amongst the viewership."

Tshuma said another love song titled Amaphutha which is a hit single in which Doit Nkomo radicaly diverted from his maskandi roots to a disco type of beat commonly referred to as Splash tagged from the name of the group that created the type of beat.

"The video track is based on a modernized background set up, uptown scenario and relates perfectly with the genre and message," he said.

Fans are set for a royal treat as they get to see other maskandi heavy weights in the likes of Tsholotsho King, Mashobane and Fezelomnyama, the trio feature in the track ETsholotsho and certainly give that ‘iziqholo zaseZhwane' touch through their hard hitting lyrics, mellow voices and hair raising praises (izibongo) in the masterpiece track according to Tshuma.

The high quality DVD ends with interviews of group members(dancers) most of whom are talented youngsters of school going age who mainly express their gratitude towards their mentor for helping them stay occupied with constructive activities in music and dancing. This keeps them away from demerit pastimes such as drugs, alcohol, gambling, bad company and other social ills that are so common in their neighborhood.

There are constructive, motivating and uplifting messages of inspiration in the interview by the group leader Doit Nkomo directed at some of his colleagues in the industry as well as fans in general.

The multi talented maskandi master also uses the opportunity to appeal for peace and tolerance amongst all Mthwakazians especially those based in South Africa, a community so prone and vulnerable to violence that has led to many lost lives at the hands of fellow countrymen in a foreign land.

There are also interviews by the group manager Beven Tshuma who in his message emphasizes the need for unity amongst all Mthwakazi maskandi artists and fans. The interviews also feature veteran controversial journalist Mxolisi Ncube who is also a die hard fan of the group Abafana BakaMzilikazi and stresses his love for the brand's originality in its works.

"This is one DVD that Mthwakazi maskandi lovers should not miss out on. One respected and well known long time fan and supporter of Mthwakazi maskandi music Senelisiwe Ncube described the DVD as ‘addictive', since she acquired her copy its been or repeat play. They say in Nguni languages "ukutshelwa yikuncitshwa". One has to watch this great video for themselves to enjoy the full impact of this great work of art," Tshuma said.
