Zimbabwean mechanic dies in freak work accident in Botswana

A Zimbabwean aged 50 employed as a mechanic by the Mupane Gold Mine in Botswana died while pumping a Load Haul Dump (LHD) loader tyre that exploded on him.
Mupane general manager, Cedric Samtoldf the media that the incident but could not identify the deceased on condition his relatives back home were yet to be informed of his death.
The man sustained fatal injuries when the tyre he was pumping exploded.
"I can certainly confirm that one of our mechanics died while inflating a tyre for one of our LHD loaders. Investigations are still on-going," he said.
"So far, the police have been to the scene and we are waiting for officials from the department of mines to come and do their investigations."
The officials from the department of mine had to travel to Francistown from Gaborone to carry out investigations at the mine.
Mupane gold mine is located in Northeastern Botswana 30km South-East of Francistown and it is the country's sole gold operation.
