Durban - IFP leader Mangosuthu Buthelezi has been admitted to a hospital in Empangeni, outside Durban, the party said on Friday.
"Doctors have admitted him to Empangeni Garden Clinic in order to obtain the rest he needs," Buthelezi's spokesperson Liezl van der Merwe said.
Doctors had expressed concern Buthelezi was suffering from fatigue because of his busy schedule.
"It is well known that throughout more than a decade in public life, Buthelezi has never taken holidays and works at a pace that few can keep up with," she said.
The Inkatha Freedom Party leader had also not taken a break after the May 18 local government elections.
"Buthelezi has expressed disappointment at being unable to attend the annual reed dance ceremony of His Majesty the King of the Zulu Nation, to perform his responsibilities as the traditional prime minister to the monarch."
The annual reed dance festival would take place at King Goodwill Zwelithini's Enyokeni Palace on Saturday. Van der Merwe said Buthelezi was expected to be discharged within a week.
