A woman from Sunnyside in Bulawayo has been slapped with wholly suspended three months jail term for bridging electricity at her home.

Nyarai Bridget Mutete (43) pleaded guilty to the charge when she appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Tinashe Tashaya.

The magistrate convicted and sentenced her to 3 months in jail wholly suspended on condition she restituted the Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution company the sum of $2638.

The court was told that on July 28 this year ZEDTC employee Webster Mujoli was tipped that she had bypassed the ZESA pre-paid meter.

He went to inspect the house and discovered that the meter had already been removed, he checked the electricity in the house and discovered that the electricity was on.

This led to the arrest of the woman.
