A woman has dragged her husband to court for insulting and assaulting her for wearing a see-through dress at home in the presence of their gardener.
Thelma Sibanda (34) stays with her husband, their children and their male helper in Pumula South suburb.
She usually wears a see-through dress that leaves nothing to imagination and her husband Julius Sibanda is uncomfortable with that.
By her own admission, Thelma says she likes the dress as she feels comfortable in it when she is doing her morning household chores.
However, her husband is totally against the idea and feels she is enticing the gardener.
Efforts by her husband to talk to her have sparked a heated argument, a string of insults and bashings too.
Her stubbornness has seen him call her a prostitute.
Thelma applied for a protection order at the Western Commonage Court.
"My name is Thelma Sibanda. My husband is emotionally abusing me as he labels me a prostitute because I wear a transparent dress at home.
"We stay with our children and our male helper and he feels I wear the dress so as to entice our male helper. When I explain to him that I just wear it because I'm comfortable in it when I'm doing my household chores he does not accept it as he insults me and labels me a prostitute.
"He even beats me up. I pray that this court would grant me the protection order," she said in her affidavit.
The presiding magistrate Jechonia Prince Ncube granted the couple a reciprocal order.
Julius was ordered to refrain from physically and emotionally abusing his wife while Thelma was ordered to dress decently so as to live peacefully with her husband.
