A 26-year-old member of the Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO) named George Goromondo appeared before a Harare magistrate, accused of raping a woman who sought spiritual assistance from his shrine.
Goromondo was released on US$200 bail and is scheduled to return to court on July 8 pending the finalization of investigations.
According to court documents, the complainant visited Goromondo's shrine in Dzivaresekwa, Harare, last month, where he allegedly instructed her to bring specific items for spiritual deliverance.
After dismissing other women present, Goromondo purportedly applied anointing syrup on the complainant and later raped her during their journey home.
He reportedly threatened her with harm and coerced her into silence.
The incident was reported to the police by the complainant's grandmother, leading to Goromondo's arrest.
