A 25-year-old man from Sabhuku Sanyika Village in Chief Nyamweda's area, Mhondoro, allegedly killed his father by beating him with a pestle and stabbing him in the chest with a knife after being accused of theft.

This incident occurred at Eladale Farm in Beatrice, where Takawira Providence Useni lived with his father, Hussin Useni (49), whom he is accused of murdering.

National police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi said Takawira was angered by his father's accusations that he was a thief and by being kicked out of the house. In retaliation, he reportedly picked up a large wooden pestle (nduni) and assaulted his father all over his body.

"This man became very upset after being scolded by his father and told to leave the house as punishment. In anger, he began beating his father with a pestle all over the body, then stabbed him in the chest with a knife. Seeing that his father was badly injured, he forced him to walk along a small forest path until he could no longer walk, and then left him collapsed by the roadside," said Comm Nyathi.

Takawira is said to have then returned home and acted as if nothing had happened, leaving his father lying beside the path.

"On May 3, another man walking along that path discovered Hussin Useni's body with blood around it. He alerted others in the community, and the case was reported to the ZRP Beatrice Police, who attended the scene. Upon examining the body, the police found multiple injuries from beatings and a stab wound to the chest. Near the body, they also found three blood-stained kitchen knives, a blood-stained pestle, and a metal rod, all believed to have been used in the assault," said Comm Nyathi.

The body was taken to Beatrice Hospital, where it awaits a post-mortem examination.

"The suspect was arrested and remains in police custody as the investigation continues. We continue to urge people to resolve disputes peacefully and avoid resorting to violence or murder," said Comm Nyathi.
