People living with disabilities call for equality

People living with disability have called for equal opportunities to participate in social, economic and political spheres.
A major conference on disability, citizenship and participation in Africa convened by the University of Zimbabwe kicked off in Harare on Wednesday bringing under spotlight issues affecting people living with disability.
In his key note address prominent activist for people living with disability, Mr Edmore Masendeke called for removal of barriers in economic, political and social spheres so that people with disability can experience active citizenship in Africa.
Academics called for deliberate polices and laws which promote equality and inclusivity regards people living with disability adding the conference will produce policy recommendations at the end.
Zimbabwe has several prominent personalities that lived with disabilities who never received recognition such as the late Pearson Nherera, a renowned lawyer and academic as well as late musician Paul Matavire.
