A MAN from Filabusi allegedly killed his uncle, a general hand at Filabusi District Hospital, claiming that he had failed to repay a debt despite having receiving his bonus in foreign currency.
Civil servants started receiving their bonuses in foreign currency two weeks ago.
Bhekimpilo Ngulube (37) is said to have attacked Sikhumbuzo Sibanda with a log on the head after the now-deceased failed to repay money he had borrowed from him.
Ngulube is said to have killed Sibanda at Filabusi District Hospital staff quarters where he lived.
The incident occurred on Saturday at about 6:30PM.
Matabeleland South police spokesperson Inspector Loveness Mangena said Ngulube has since been arrested.
"We have arrested a 37-year-old man in connection with murder. The accused is alleged to have assaulted a man leading to his death.
The deceased who worked at Filabusi District Hospital was found dead by his colleagues who had heard sounds of glasses falling down in Sikhumbuzo Sibanda's house.
The two on their way to Sibanda's residence met the accused person putting on a t-shirt which had blood stains," said Insp Mangena.
She said a report was made to police leading to the arrest of Ngulube, from Nkankezi Village under Chief Maduna.
Insp Mangena appealed to members of the public to shun violence.
"We encourage people to solve their disputes amicably without resorting to violence. People should seek counselling from police, traditional leaders and other professionals to solve their disputes.
We strongly discourage violence and during this festive season we shall have patrols arresting people with dangerous weapons which were banned," said Insp Mangena.
A close family relative who spoke on condition of anonymity said the two were relatives and trouble started when Sibanda refused to clear his debt.
The now-deceased owed the accused some money which he borrowed three months ago and had not paid back even after he received his bonus.
"The deceased is an uncle to the accused and the two have been living together although the accused was not employed. The money which was borrowed by his uncle some months back led to a misunderstanding which made the accused fight the deceased," said a source.
