The State has been compelled to withdraw charges of attempted murder and other offenses against Maureen Kademaunga, a member of the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) who serves as the legislator for Sunningdale. This decision came about as the authorities were unable to find any evidence linking her to the alleged crime.

Kademaunga was arrested alongside CCC Ward 10 Councillor Clayd Mashozhera (49) and Daudi Jessub (40). Her lawyer, Harrison Nkomo, confirmed her release and stated, "We have been here since morning, and the prosecutor general has looked at the papers and has come to a conclusion that there is an iota of evidence against Maureen Kademaunga for alleged crime, to that end she has been released."

Mashozhera and Jessub are expected to be formally placed on remand in court later in the day.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, police national spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi explained that the arrests of the trio were related to an incident on August 23, during which three complainants were attacked near Metro-Peech in Harare. The incident involved the burning of a Toyota Spacio vehicle, and the suspects allegedly used various vehicles, including one owned by Kademaunga, to block and assault the complainants. Nyathi provided details of the incident and the charges against the suspects.
