The Deputy Mayor of Harare, Councillor Kudzai Kadzombe, who was arrested on Thursday for violating the Electoral Act, has been released on bail.
Kadzombe is also facing assault charges and recently appeared before Harare Magistrate Dennis Mangosi. She has been remanded to October 2 for a routine remand, during which prosecutors are expected to set a trial date.
According to the prosecution, Kadzombe allegedly assaulted an individual named Saeed Musaengana and attempted to prevent him from voting on August 23. The incident occurred when Musaengana was walking toward the polling tents, and two vehicles and a white omnibus stopped behind him. Several people disembarked from the vehicles, and an unknown male tried to provoke Musaengana but was restrained by others.
Allegedly taking advantage of the situation, Kadzombe approached Musaengana, grabbing him by the neck before eventually letting him go.
