A series of delays, including state inaction and the absence of the trial magistrate and key witnesses, have further prolonged the attempted murder trial of Marry Mubaiwa, the former wife of Vice President Constantino Chiwenga.
The trial, which was postponed for the third time in September, faced interruptions due to the magistrate's unavailability. On September 7, John Mangwiro, a former deputy health minister and a critical witness in the case, also failed to appear.
During previous trial sessions, Mangwiro stated that Chiwenga was transported to China for medical treatment after the alleged attempt on his life. He emphasized that they were concerned about Marry Mubaiwa's interference and the safety of Chiwenga.
Mangwiro is scheduled to testify on October 23 when the trial resumes. He will undergo cross-examination by Beatrice Mtetwa, Mubaiwa's lawyer, who denies the charges against her.
