Prophet jailed for attempted murder

A self-proclaimed prophet in Mount Darwin was jailed on Thursday by Bindura regional magistrate Elisha Singano.


Tanhanha Chamunorwa was sentenced to six years in jail but the magistrate conditionally suspended one year on condition of good behaviour.

The court heard that on January 13, Chamunorwa was hired by the now deceased Track Kachenge to his house to cleanse  the homestead.

The prophet gave concation to Kachenge who became unconscious for the whole day.

He came the next day and was told that Kachenge was still unconscious and he ordered the family to get into a kitchen hut.

When the family got into the hut he burnt some of his stuff and went to where Kachenge was.

Upon arrival he picked an axe handle and struck Kachenge once on the head.

The family heard some noise and went to enquire about what was happening.

They got the shock of their life, Chamunorwa was shouting l want to kill somebody while holding an axe handle.

A police report was filed leading to the arrest of Chamunorwa and the axe handle was used as exhibit.
