Vice President Dr. Constantino Chiwenga has arrived in Dushanbe, Tajikistan, to lead Zimbabwe's delegation at the third Dushanbe Water Action Decade Conference, starting tomorrow.
Accompanied by his wife, Colonel Miniyothabo Chiwenga, Deputy Minister Vangelis Haritatos, and other senior officials, he was welcomed by Tajikistan's Deputy Prime Minister Usmonali Usmonzoda.
The conference aims to address global water sustainability and the challenges posed by climate change. United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres will participate, emphasizing the need for an Under Secretary focused on water issues at the UN.
Chiwenga highlighted the critical role of sustainable water use in Zimbabwe's economic development. He stressed the importance of ensuring adequate water supply for both people and agriculture, noting that Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) are vital for the country's progress towards becoming an empowered upper-middle-income economy.
In addition to the conference, Chiwenga has several economic diplomatic engagements planned.
