Wife physically abuses hubby over food

A 45-year-old woman from Hwange has been sentenced to 12 months in prison after physically assaulting her husband during a dispute over food. The woman, who was not named, used kitchen utensils, including a knife, dinner plates, and enamel cups, to attack her 56-year-old husband.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ), the incident occurred on 29 September 2024 around 7:30 pm. The couple had a disagreement about food, which quickly escalated into violence. The accused reportedly stabbed her husband in the left elbow with a kitchen knife, struck him in the mouth with a dinner plate, and then proceeded to hit him several times across his body with enamel cups.
The assault left the husband with a swollen right upper lip and a deep cut on his left elbow. Following the attack, the woman was arrested and brought before the Hwange Magistrates Court.
The court sentenced the woman to 12 months in prison, with 6 months suspended for five years. The remaining 6 months were suspended on the condition that she performs 210 hours of community service.
The NPAZ has urged the public to resolve disputes peacefully and to avoid resorting to violence. The case highlights the serious consequences of domestic violence and the importance of finding non-violent solutions to conflicts within the home.
